The specialty camp staff person participates and serves as an assistant to the specialty camp instructor. Specialty camps include: competitive swimming, masters of magic, fishing expeditions, and teen adventure challenge. This position is considered a skill area instructor. Skill Area Instructor responsibilities are two-fold. The primary responsibility of this position is to be in charge of a given instructional program area. Duties include supervision, development, teaching and maintaining the particular program area such that all campers have positive learning experiences that provide challenges to the individual and assist the camper in achieving personal goals. The secondary responsibility is to actively participate in the living section with campers. Duties include assisting in the general day-to-day care and supervision of the campers. This will include, but not be limited to, living in the sections, meals, guidance, and assuring that each camper’s stay is enjoyable, safe, and provides some kind of personal growth. Assisting the senior staff in their responsibilities will be several teenage Jr. Staff volunteers. Jr. Staff members will be under the direct supervision of the senior staff member. The senior staff role is that of a mentor; teaching both skills and responsibility to the Jr. Staff as they pass through the hands-on training program.
