The Science Camp Counselor is responsible for providing camper supervision and instructor support at the Sally Ride Science Camps by Education Unlimited. The Camp Counselor is expected to help the Camp Director and other staff in the execution of a successful, safe, and fun series of camps. Responsibilities include leading girls in recreational activities and workshops, providing camper supervision, maintaining a safe working environment for campers grades 6-9, and assisting the camp director with a small number of administrative tasks.

NATURE OF POSITION

The Counselor should be at least 18 years old and have a passion for working with middle school aged girls. Counselor should also have experience working with students in an academic and/or recreational environment, and should be responsible and trustworthy. We are seeking Counselors that can be positive and inspiring role models for the girls who attend the program. A passion for science is encouraged but not necessary.

The primary responsibility for the counselor will be to assist the Director and Instructors in providing supervision and support for the campers at the program. This will include assisting in classes and labs, walking girls to/from activities, providing nighttime supervision in the dorms, providing supervision at meal times, and implementing recreational and workshop activities for girls. Some check-in duties on the first day of camp, and other administrative tasks throughout the program, will also be required.

Before camp actually begins, the Counselor will be required to attend a training session about one week prior to the start of camp.

The Counselor will live in the dorms with the students and should expect to work between 6 and 9 hours each day. In addition, Counselor will be on call up to two-thirds of the nights of each camp.

PERCENT OF TIME KEY -- RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION

50% -- Supervision responsibilities.

40% -- Leading workshops and recreational activities.

10% -- Set up work and administrative responsibilities.

COMPENSATION
< P >
This position requires roughly an 8-day commitment, including arrival on campus on the afternoon prior to the first day of camp. Compensation for this position starts at $500.00 dollars. Counselors will be paid as an independent contractor. Room and board will be provided.
