NATURE OF POSITION

The primary responsibilities of the SAT instructor will be to deliver lectures on Education Unlimited’s SAT curriculum, to hold practice sessions during which students complete SAT exercises, and to meet with and teach students in small groups. In addition, the SAT instructor is expected to attend all staff meetings and to assist the camp director on the first day of camp while the students arrive on campus.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

It is expected that the applicant will be very familiar with the substance of both the math and the verbal portions of the SAT though instructors will be asked to specialize in either 1) verbal and writing, or, 2) math. Ideally, the applicant will have had experience teaching or tutoring the SAT. The position requires that the applicant be comfortable lecturing to groups of students, and that he or she feels genuine enthusiasm at the prospect of working closely with young people.

DETAILS OF POSITON

Prior to camp, the instructor will receive Education Unlimited’s SAT curriculum handbook. This book contains a detailed account of the strategies developed by EU for the successful teaching of the SAT.

On the first day of camp, the instructor will (accompanied by fellow SAT instructors, if such there be) deliver an introductory lecture. The purpose of the lecture is to give the students an overview of the elements of successful SAT preparation, and to discuss the structure of the camp’s SAT program.

Over the next nine days, the SAT instructor will: (1) deliver lectures once or twice a day; (2) hold practice sessions for the students once or twice a day; and (3) work, in small groups, with his or her students in three 1 and 1/2 hour block rotations every afternoon. There will be approximately 10-15 students per block rotation. On the second, fifth, and last (10th) day of camp, the SAT instructor is expected to proctor practice SAT exams.

PERCENT OF TIME -- KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION

35% Deliver lectures to and hold practice sessions for students.
< P >
35% Meet with students during block rotations.
< P >
15% Study curricular materials; develop lesson plans
(with fellow SAT instructor(s).)

5% Proctor SAT Practice exams.
< P >
10% Attend pre-camp meeting, mid-camp meeting, and assist Director in greeting arriving students at check-in.

COMPENSATION
< P >
This position requires an eleven-day commitment, including arrival on campus on the afternoon prior to the first day of camp. Compensation for this position starts at $1610 dollars. SAT Instructors will be paid as independent contractors. Housing in a single room is provided.

An additional stipend of $250 for supervision is optional. These duties include living in the dorms alongside the campers, being "on-duty" 2/3 of the nights of camp, performing floor and bed checks, "hanging out" with the campers after scheduled classes and assisting the director with "structured activities."

It is our preference that all of our staff choose the above-mentioned living arrangements, however, we recognize the need for other accommodations.

There are three possible living arrangements available to EU staff. Please choose one and note it on your employment application:

I. Full supervision: (as mentioned above) Includes all meals, a parking permit if needed, and the additional stipend of $150.
< P >
II. Commuter: (Staff member lives at home and commutes to camp for daily classes.) Includes cafeteria lunch OR dinner and parking permit.

III. Half supervision: Includes all meals and a parking permit if needed. Staff member is NOT expected to perform nightly supervision duties, however, while living in the dorms alongside campers they may be called upon at times to help out should there be a crisis.
